-------------------------SMLP

The Social Movement Learning Project

Chat Line #2

Hello,

This is the second broadcast to the SML Working Group with updates on the
Project and general news.

DRAFT WORKING PLAN
Attached to this email is a draft version (the third or fourth) of the SML
working plan. It is still a work-in-progress that is being circulated in
small numbers to get input and feedback. Please give your comments and
concerns in either an email form or, bring it to the Core Group Meeting in
Tucson where Budd will hosting the second meeting (the first was King
View). There will also be a public workshop on the project.

PAR CONFERENCE NOTICE
We hope you can come to Ottawa for the conference. Budd, Pramod and others
will be presenting on the SMLP. We'd love to show you some of our capital
city, which will be lovely in the summer, (it's nice in the winter too - if
you like snow).

DEEPENING OUR UNDERSTANDING AND PRACTICE:  A CONFERENCE ON PARTICIPATORY
DEVELOPMENT AND BEYOND

DATE:  25-27 August 1999
VENUE:  Ottawa, CANADA
ENQUIRIES:  Conference Organisers
E-mail:  [email protected]  WWW:  http://www.caidc.ca

OAK RIDGES BIOREGION MEETING
The Oak Ridges Bioregion held it's first organizational meeting to discuss
the possibilities of a SML project. Actors from all the sectors attended
and, although they could not commit their organizations without
consultation, all seemed to think it was a good idea to meet again in March
to consider it further. They will be circulating the draft working document
to their organizations and coming to the March meeting with more feedback
and, hopefully, instructions from their constituencies to participate.

SMLP FILING AND ORGANIZATION `SYSTEM'
The Transformative Learning Centre has kindly donated some space and
expertise in its resource room for any materials relevant to the
SMLProject. If you have documents longing for a shelf to be filed on,
copies of grant proposals and applications, books you'd like to have in a
central location, the TLC would be happy to give them a home. It makes some
sense to have one institutional memory bank where copies of things can be
coordinated and stored for sharing and to act as a clearing house to keep
the left and right hands in touch with each other.

How are you doing in your bioregions? Please let us know.

Best wishes
Deborah
