The Social Movement Learning
Project
The SMLP is an initiative to undertake
and promote research and to disseminate information about the learning
impact of social movements. The initiative is based on the hypotheses that
- worldwide the focus of social
movements has shifted from protest to proposal
- social movements create through
their activities manifold and diverse learning spaces
- social movements play an important
role in the question how to respond to the growing social demand for adult
learning
- this new role of social movements
might have important implications for future policies in the field of adult
education and adult learning and that
- the close cooperation of
three distinct kind of actors, namely the social movements themselves,
universities and international networks could create and provide an important
support structure for adult learning in different contexts and all world
regions.
The SMLP is a forum for collaboration of individuals and institutions from all world regions. The aim is, to promote the learning activities provided and created by social movements through an in-depth research on the learning capacities created by the work of social movements.
